Tom's Top Gun Serenade

For Tom Cruise, words weren't enough to express his feelings for Katie Holmes. He had to do it in song -- and a familiar one at that.

When, L.A. deejay Mark Ronson played the Righteous Brothers tune "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" during the reception for the couple's wedding, Cruise serenaded his bride by singing along with the record.

"She was completely touched -- laughing, loving him and enjoying him," guest Leah Remini tells PEOPLE.

Cruise's impromptu serenade, of course, hearkens back to his performance of the same song in Top Gun. In the movie his character, Maverick, attempted to woo Kelly McGillis with the song. As for Katie, her heart already belongs to Tom.

Penelope Cruz Sends Her Best

Tom's pre-Katie girlfriend, Penelope Cruz, has no hard feelings about her ex's recent wedding – even though she didn't go.

"I'm not going to get into the details of why I didn't go, but I just talked to him last week before they left and he's one of my closest friends and he's someone very important in my life," Cruz tells Ellen DeGeneres on an episode of the talk show airing today.

"He's been always so good to me. He has a huge heart, she's a wonderful woman, and I just wish them happiness forever. They are very, very happy and I love that family, all of them, (including) his kids and the baby. I'm very close to them."

Update: Cruise, Holmes Head for Honeymoon in Maldives

After their magical evening, the newlyweds left the Odescalchi castle this morning at dawn, sources there tell PEOPLE. Tom & Katie then flew out of Rome for a honeymoon in the Maldives, sources confirm.

The rest of the wedding party was expected to fly back to L.A. later on Sunday. As for the celebs, Victoria Beckham was spotted Sunday leaving the Hassler hotel with a massive cart of Louis Vuitton luggage trailing behind.

From PEOPLE News: Holmes wore an off-the-shoulder Armani gown with a train in ivory silk cadis adorned in Valenciennes lace and Swarovski beaded crystal embroidery. Holmes also had an ivory tulle floor-length veil and ivory silk shoes. Armani, which outfitted the entire wedding, supplied Katie's bouquet of calla lilies, as well as a champagne evening gown, which she wore at the reception.

Cruise wore a navy blue Armani tuxedo.

Tom & Katie Using Brad & Jen's Wedding Photographer

Robert Evans does weddings. Of course, not just anybody's wedding: He shot Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston's Malibu wedding in 2000. And with that kind of resume, it's probably no surprise Tom & Katie have hired him for today's Italian celebration. The couple tracked Evans down through the Bridal Bar, an L.A.-based special events referral service.

As for the pics, we're just looking forward to seeing how they come out.

Katie's Gift to Tom

Katie was out shopping last week -- and now we know what she bought: A $23,000 watch for her new husband from Swiss watchmaker Vacheron Constantin, PEOPLE has confirmed. Holmes had the timepiece engraved with an "I love you" message on the back. A nice way to start a marriage.
